Category B - Bowhunters
who have shown Excellence in the Design and Manufacturing of Archery
Equipment
For Randy Walk, bowhunting has always been
a way of life. As a young boy his father Jay owned an archery shop and
had a tremendous passion for archery and specifically bowhunting. "Still
today I can smell the cedar arrows that my father would fletch for his
customers," commented Randy. "I loved spending time at the archery shop
with my parents and they tell me that I was quite a shot with a bow and
arrow almost as soon as I could walk."
From those days as a young boy just
learning to walk, Randy hasn't put a bow down since. The very first year
he was able to hunt with a bow, he bagged a mule deer buck in Southern
Utah while on an annual family deer hunt. During his high school years
at Grantsville High, located in a rural farming community in Northern
Utah, he was already an accomplished big game hunter and had an
incredible ability to shoot a bow and arrow.
After graduating from high school in 1981.
Randy enrolled in the electrical engineering program at the University
of Utah. Randy's ability for engineering was as strong as his ability to
shoot a bow, which made him the perfect fit for an engineering position
at Hoyt USA. Randy's talents, passion, and desire to succeed propelled
him up the company ladder quickly. In 1988, at the age of 25, he found
himself leading the entire engineering efforts at Hoyt USA and today
sits as the company President, a company that has become a leader in
compound and recurve bow design and innovation. Randy is responsible for
several compound bow patents all of which have had substantial impact on
the compound bow today.
Randy has harvested over 100 North American
big game animals and 15 different species of African animals. Randy
resides in Utah with his wife Diana and has three boys, Brandon,
Remington and Preston all who share the passion of bowhunting their
father has.
